OBITUARY Auckland Branch members regret the death of one of their keenest members, Bill Colbert, on 10th of June 1996.
Bill joined the League and the Branch in 1991, In spite of poor health in recent times he became a regular attender at branch meetings where he contributed much to discussions on radio topics, both monitoring and technical.
In 1994 he was Appointed a Branch Committee member and gave his fellow members a great deal of useful advice. Bill’s great love was our DXpeditions, ranging from Port Waikato to Little Huia to Waipu Cove and although listening conditions were not always perfect Bill was always a starter in good conversations regarding his hobby.
Our forthcoming DXpedition in October was something he looked forward to, giving him a chance to log the special transmission from the rock in the South Atlantic, St Helena.
Bill’s funeral service was attended by members of this Branch who farewelled a well known and popular member. We will all miss him.
Evan Murray, Auckland Branch
I was also sad to learn of Bill’s death as I had met with him while attending the Hay Auckland Branch meeting. We had a long chat about the hobby plus other topics. A number of South Island members will remember Bill from the Convention held at Camp Iona. Bill could certainly tell a good yarn.
