OBITUARY – CHESTER, George (Charlie), died on Saturday, May 18th at Invercargill, aged 70 years.
Charlie was born in England and served in the RAF and later moved to Australia and was with the Australian Forces in Korea and Japan In I966 he arrived in Invercargill and most of his working life was on the switchboard at Southland Hospital
He joined the DX League in 1972 and was part of the administrative committee, he cleared the box every day and distributed the material to Irene Simpson, then National Secretary, and other members of the group
He was at seven Annual Meetings in Oamaru and at conventions in the south island. He had a keen interest in receivers, buying and selling many and his last was a Lowe HF225.
The uneral on May 23rd at the Salvation Army was attended by nine from the branch and as he was a keen Salvationist the service reflected his interest in the Church, in his stamp collecting and radio listening.
